The war was cited as one of the few times that a rebellion was not rightfully brought about by those starting it, and historians in present day have frequently pointed to the diplomatic terms that the two sides agreed to at the end of the war could have been maintained and ended with a less bloody, perhaps even better outcome. Other historians take a stance of war, claiming that certain innovations that led to improved farming (and no such widespread rebellion for food shortage has happened since partially because of this) would not have been developed without the necessity for it before, during, and for some time after the war's conclusion.

Leading up to the war

The seasons in Andoras are diverse, with northern Frostfall experiencing winter-like conditions for most of the year, only to break into a brisk spring during the summer. Meanwhile, the southernmost provinces such as Thunder's Shore, Gardoria, and Ember's End receive a relatively temperate (in some locations, even tropical) year. The summer of 198 AC was particularly tropical and warm, with dry spells lasting months in some regions. This led to a drought, and with crops dying before they can be harvested, starvation began to occur and peasants began to die, already exhausted of their hard labor and meager rations. This alarmed many of the nobles in the southern provinces, who needed the peasants to work their land, as they certainly did not feel like doing it themselves. Through a bit of tipping off in the noble circuit, it was planned that the peasants would be riled up in the streets of Dragonspire.

Soon peasants began to steal from lords and even kill. This sparked a rebellion that would last over two years.
